SD card stolen

5185 Views 157 Replies 37 Participants Last post by  338/378wm
I’ve had 4 cams out for about 5 weeks on public land. Went on a 8 mile scout today and grabbed the cams. Got to the 3rd one and it looked different from how I left it. I hang my cams about 9’ high and while I was walking up to the tree, I noticed it was at about 5’. Someone cut the strap, turned off the cam, and stole the SD card, then tied the cam to the tree.

I was mad at first, then I realized how pathetic their life must be to do this, actually feel sorry for them. If they are stealing SD cards then I’m sure they are a POS in their everyday life too. I’ll be upgrading to cell cams in the future with cable locks.

When I hear about someone taking the card and not the camera I have to wonder if they didn't discover the camera until they had already peed in front of it.

I know my wife, who spends a lot of time hiking and bicycling various trails, is always worried and checking for cameras before she pees in the woods. She figures if someone got a picture of it she would end up on some weirdo's website. I am pretty sure if we discovered she had her pants down in front of a camera either the camera or card would become disabled.

I think there‘s more people with sticky fingers out there than there are folks with weak bladders.

A new HPA classic. Well, that is clever, hoping they did not put those up on the innerweb.

Didn’t read all the comments so this might have already been said. Locks and cables only prevent the “honest” thief or the lazy ones. If someone really wants it they are gonna take it.

He probably wouldn't have said that if it was your wife who ran naked in front of the camera! 😂

Just because you're in the minority of most people that use public land, doesn't mean it should stop others from enjoying it in their way too. Buy land and post it against trail cameras if it bothers you that much to see a trailcam on public land. It's annoying when the minority believes they should dictate their beliefs on others and govern other's enjoyment.
Don’t cry when your camera takes someone’s picture who doesn’t want it taken and your sd card disappears, cuz I can’t blame them

There is no expectation of privacy in public, and no excuse to be a thief.

And no expectation that someone that finds one left on public and tries to locate the owner will ever find them to return it. Not all good deeds work out. Waugh!

It’s his opinion and just like you he is entitled to it.
I think it should be illegal too….same with ladder stands….why should you be allowed to let anything there?
I carry my tree stand in and out every time I hunt.

Save your money on cable locks. They are only for honest people. Ask me how I know.

There is no expectation to privacy on public property. Stay inside your own property if you don't want your picture taken. Your picture and video is taken hundreds of times a week if you're on public property interacting semi normally with society.

On a property I hunt there is another guy who is just a pain in the rear about everything. Just a hard person to be around.
I walked in one morning in turkey season sneaking through in the dark and was greeted by a bright white flash from his trail camera. I made it a point to walk past it again with a Longbeard over my shoulder.

Bears like to remove cameras from trees. With a strap they will often break the strap and paw the camera around a little bit then leave it alone.
With a cable lock they will rip and chew your camera off the tree.

Have had many cameras destroyed by bears. Always wash your hands before doing trail cams. Especially if you just had breakfast and were eating strips of bacon by hand.
