What scope mounts would you recomend i buy for my sons new left handed savage without spending a fortune?

depends on the caliber and what you consider a fortune.

if its a long action you may need offset mounts, i would take the gun to the shop just to make sure they will fit.

the rifle is a 270.i assume its long action with accutrigger.

Fortunately, the most solid scope mounts are also the cheapest...You can go to Ebay and get a set of Weaver bases for about $8 shipped, and Weaver medium rings( the new ones, not the old slotted rings) will cost you about $10 for a set......I used all of the dovetail Redfield and Leupold bases for decades...Went back to these.

I have a 111 in 300. I ended up going with a one piece base from EGW. It was the only thing I could find that would allow me enough room to mount the scope.
