Just saw in Outdoor News that a group called SOD {Save Our Does} had their founder's photo posted by the Colton Point State Park sign. He is showing his unused doe tag as some kind of "trophy". His claimed to many doe tags are issued so it looks like another self misguided group is now here.Yea for him. I could post the name and totally rebut his claims. Many on this site know me and I live about 2 miles from where that photo was taken. I travel and most importantly..SCOUT a lot of of that mountain behind that sign. My wife and I will commonly see many deer, bear and other surprises between that sign and Blackwell all year long. I feel they need more does taken as deer are dying of old age back in there. Try spring trout fishing in the tributaries leading into the canyon and if you can not deer sign your blind. This is stunning that Outdoor News would stoop this low to promote a group that has an axe to grind with the GC. I will stop by their booth at the sportsman show next month and ask why....This is very very simple...SCOUT SCOUT and Scout some more.. Just can not depend on hunting at "dad's favorite rock" any more. I just want to let that hunter from Ridley Park,Pa know...PA forests have blessed me so far this license year an 3 1/2 year old 8 point and a 188 lb bear and some good memories from this season from a few good people. The bear hunters in Elk Twp alone are reporting the huge bucks they saw in bear season...following week those same guys are all home downstate and their camps closed up for the season and you want to know why you are not seeing deer?

KS= Send me their info. I would like to extend a hearty invitation to them. just a quick note to tell them that for every doe tag they have and do not use, I will use 2. And so on. These types of groups sicken me. They deny doe tags to guys who will use them for there intended purposes. Not burning. I seen enough doe tag burning parties in the early 80's to last me a life time!

Glad to see I wasn't the only one that noticed that picture towards the back end of this months outdoor news paper.

I too had the same reaction. Additionally, it got me thinking if this guy lives in Ridley Park (Delaware County) then he probably just hunts in Tioga during deer season and doesn't have a complete picture of the herd in the area of Colten.

Only bought one doe tag this past year, Curly. Figured you might change yer mind, want one and there'd be an extry 3A tag left just for you?

Nope, didn't shoot a doe this time around. Had 'em all around me the first few days. One even bedded down less than 40 yards below me on opening day. Probably knew it was safe until Saturday? Once they became legal targets, never had one within 150 yards the rest of the time at camp.

Could've thumped one of 'em with the 25-06 or 8x57, sooner use the Lyman-sighted 30-30?

Wasn't a problem before they put 3A into buck only for five days. That's how I killed some earlier in the season with an old relic or two, back then. Even killed a baldy on opening day some years ago, with a M92 made in 1903. So many does wandering around near the cabin, figured might's well shoot one while they were so handy and concentrate on bucks the rest of the season?

Got another season or two left in me, Lord willing? Ain't done yet. After the first 25-30 does, the shine kinda goes down a bit as we get older.

Sounds to me like him letting some does live is letting you guys see some deer so whats the big deal?
It really isn't a big deal. But he is defeating his own purpose. As someone said before, they issue next years doe tags based on this year's success rates. If they feel success rates are low, they may issue more tags to acheive the targeted harvest numbers. But, like we both agree on, his one doe tag doesn't make too much difference in the grand scheme of things. Unless he gets 1000s of followers to do the same.....

I have an unused doe tag, too.
