I have the Ruger .30-06 with the shorter barrel and am having trouble finding a load that keeps a good group. I am currently shooting a 180gr Spear hollow point, which keeps my groups at 4" @ 100yrds. Anyone out there have any suggestions to bring them closer?

We reload our own shells and have tried the 120 and 130gr bullets with no success. any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

I have a m77 in 30-06 and used to load my own shells
We used nosler ballistic tip 150 grain and had great success at the range with them
I don't remember the powder or charge we used off hand

I currently shoot whichester supreme ballistic tips over the couter and they shoot very well.

Hopefully your usein 4350 or 4064 and jumpin from 125's and30's to 180's might be bad idea. Try workin up loads with 150's and 165's. get one shootin nice before changin bt. wt. Rugers aND 06'S SHOOT. TAKE A STEP BACK AND START OVER....LATER

4 inches at 100 yards..???? I didn't think that was possible with any bolt action rifle made by anyone or any factory or handloaded shells.. heck, muzzloaders will shoot better! Somthing must be loose, check the bases, rings, stock/action screws etc.. heck, my shotgun with slugs isn't that bad... SOMETHINGS not right, what about the quality of the scope??

IMR 4350 and 150 grain bullets always have worked good with my handloads and guns. Give it a try - when in doubt - buy a box or Remington Core-loks and try to see if they will group better - might not be the bullets/rounds - might be the gun

Check your OAL out and adjust to .010 off the lands IF YOU CAN. Some throats and magazines won't allow it though. I've had good luck with Reloader 19 so maybe try a different powder as well? IMR 4064 should be the ticket though....it has been for every '06 I've ever loaded for.

I had a 7mm RM....Win 70....that shot 'patterns' at 100 yards with Win. Supreme 140gr Ballistic Silvertips. It was tough keeping shots on a 12" square target. That same rifle would shoot one ragged hole with cheap Win. 150gr Power-Points go figure!

Try other loads. Brother-in-law has a n older 700ADL that will not hold 150's in 4 inches at 100 but shoots 165 and 180 grs into an inch.

I had a Ruger M77 once in 270 Win, that grouped like that..After trying a pile of different handloads through it it still grouped 4"....I got rid of it soon after.

I had a problem with a 30-06 years ago BUT it was a remington bdl. I couldn't hit the broad side of barn never mind a 4 inch group. I sent it to a gunsmith and $50 later I had 1 to 1 1/2 groups. It wasn't the loads it was something to do with the gun itself. That gun even after that wouldn't shoot 180 gr loads. It did love 165's though.

My KM77 Mk II is the most accurate .30-06 in my safe. (out of 70). It did not shoot well (2-3") at first, but seems like it needed some break-in. Now, its 3-shot groups run between .5-1". Try 150 gr ballistic tips (or accubonds)over IMR-4350. If you want heavier bullets, try 180 gr partitions over Ramshot Hunter.

Try a 165 gr. Spitzer (I use Rem. Core-Lokts) with 48.5 gr. of IMR 4064. It's a target load but is all you need for whitetail here in PA. If this load doesn't shoot well it's the rifle or scope.
