I use a slightly longer ram rod in the field when hunting. If it sticks an inch beyond the muzzle, the worst that can happen is it will get a little soot on it. First check to be sure there is clearance for the ball/bullett to pass above the ram rod end. Nothing worse than shooting a jag off the end of the ram rod. I have this "friend" that.......

Good idea. I know I have a couple of them in the kitchen drawer. I guess there will be one less in the kitchen drawer when I get home.
