Rate Increases for Hunting, Fishing Licenses

This coming week, the House Game and Fisheries Committee, of which I serve as chairman, will receive annual reports from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (Tuesday, March 27) and Pennsylvania Game Commission (Wednesday, March 28). Both meetings will begin at 10 a.m. and be streamed through my website, PA State Rep. Keith Gillespie.

Both commissions are expected to again request passage of legislation that would give them the power to set the amount of their licenses fees. Please click here to offer your opinion on this proposal.

Gillespie is a down to earth sort of feller and one of the few left over there, whose only agenda is doing right by his fellow sportsmen and women.

Darn shame he doesn't have more on "his side" in that regard, because far too many of his colleagues now have personal agendas that are not working in our favor these days.

Medical Marijuana, LOL... Legalize it already. Weed, booze... What is the difference?
Package it, market it, sell it, tax it. Same as Liquor.

Raise the hunting license fee, quit the banter already. It is long overdue.

He's the guy that said Arway must go, right?

In case anyone is interested, I hope York county keeps the facility because if they sold it, the employees would likely lose their hourly rates and good benefits and it is difficult to find a job that pays a living wage in this field. I'm against the 25 dollar fee for state police coverage because I already pay an excessive amount of taxes in this state, they can find their money in funds they already take. I do not favor a tax on the gas industry because they already pay impact fees and I'm tired of government crapping on capitalism. Weed should be legalized because it's not really worse than alcohol (although I don't think it should be handled like alcohol is in PA. PAs state stores are horrible examples of socialism and I don't like buying alcohol the way they do in the Soviet Union). Finally I voted that the commissions should be given an increase but should never be given to raise fees on their own until they eliminate the defined pension programs they give employees and offer only 401K type retirement plans like the people in the real world get.

Nope. That'd be Sen. Scarnatti and his buddies in both the House and Senate.

They were offended that Arway had the nerve to threaten to close trout hatcheries and cut back on stocking trout to cut costs, unless PA Fish&Boat got a license increase.

The bill to limit the term of the F&B Executive Director to eight years (which is how long Arway has served), flew through the Senate in mere days, while bills to grant a license increase have lingered for the past two years in the House.

To the Senate's credit, they had previously passed bills to increase fees, but they'd gone nowhere in the House. When Arway's patience finally ran out and he threatened trout hatcheries in Scarnatti's district, the gloves came off.

all of us already pay TWICE for the PSP.

we pay income tax and we pay a gas tax

the gas tax which happens to be the highest in America, was passed as a way to repair our roads and bridges. but the PSP in their infinite wisdom siphoned off the lions share for their budget.

i know i pay enough for the PSP, i dont need to pay more.

and on top of that, i am now paying an extra $5.00 for car registration to fix the roads and bridges in Erie County.

any tea in the harbor we can throw overboard ?

The PSP budget was siphoned off by order of the legiscritters because they didn't want to create a separate fund placed in the "view" of the public. The $25 fee would/will be soon raised to much more to fund more of the PSP budget.
