I did have 3 stocks when I purchased the gun 2 were light in color and the one had a darker grain:Will I say it walnut I am not sure but it looks better then the cheap birch stocks.

this gun definitely has a safety problem.it dry fired quite a few times while i was working the bolt.finger nowhere near the trigger.

Take it to a good gunsmith ASAP ! Remove the bolt so theres no possibility of an accident.

Remington will repair it for free there is a recall on certain serial numbers
I think off the top of my head if the serial number start with A it is not on recall

if you pull the trigger with the safety on and then you take the safety off they can go off. it was documented back in the 70's. the recall will fix it.

Very good guns. Light ,accurate, and handy. They were the Model 7 long before the model 7. I have a friend who could hunt with any gun ever made, but he shoots his buck every year with his 600 in .308. The only one thats no fun to shoot is the 600 in .350 Rem Mag. That is one of the nastiest recoiling jaw busters any outfit ever made ! Its a good gun, you will like it. I beleive they started making those in 1964 or so.

That's the only one of those ugly things I can stand. And it could've used a little more barrel to maximize the cartridge.
