Regulations for second tag??

2950 Views 32 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  HighCountry66
I read all of the online pgc turkey regutiknsnand I either did not see the second tag regulations or they are not in the book? If you have a second tag is it one turkey per day or do you just need to tag your first bird before going after a second? Also I noticed an interesting description of a legal broadhead in the regulations. To be legal a broadhead can not have more than 3.25 or 3.5" of blade surface. I think even my 4 blade slick tricks would be classified as illegal according to that. I do not typically bow hunt for turkeys but some of the blind and broadhead regs seem quite silly to me.

SPRING GOBBLER (Bearded bird only): April 30-May 31, 2016. Daily limit 1, season limit 2. (Second spring gobbler may be only taken by persons who possess a valid special wild turkey license.) From April 30-May 14, legal hunting hours are one-half hour before sunrise until noon; from May 16-31, legal hunting hours are one-half hour before sunrise until one-half hour after sunset.
Looks like one a day....good luck
1 bird per day. Not sure about the broadhead part of the question
Yep, 1 a day. Been posted on here several times this year, and it's right in the digest. Apparently the fellow that posted earlier wasn't aware of that regulation.
"The broad head must have an outside diameter or width of at least 7/8 of an inch. and the length of the cutting surface may not exceed 3.25 inches in length."

I agree with Extremesolo.... Muzzy MX-4s are illegal if they are talking about Total Cutting surface - if they are referring to each cutting surface its a different story
It makes me wonder if him and others have done it before without knowing the regs
I don't see how it's remotely confusing...

I'm not a real smart person by any means...

But when I look to see when work g gobbler season starts and ends and when I can hunt all day even I can see and read the print that explains season limit of 2 if you possess 2nd tag...daily limit of ONE.

Why I can't shoot two at once is beyond me...but it's their rules...I will play by them...
I'm going to guess it's to slow down the harvest of birds. If you have a shotgun with three rounds, two (or more) gobblers come in, and you flop one and the others don't immediately blow out of the area, you just adjust aim and now you've got two. Or you get two in one shot. Either way, that's easier than having at least two separate encounters to kill two birds.

That's my GUESS as to why they limit it to one per day....so they can offer the tag/opportunity without having a dramatic increase in turkeys taken.

I would bet that if the population grows and/or hunters decline (or harvests decline), you'll see the 1-a-day rule disappear.

I think it's the same mentality surrounding the reg that permits more than one deer to be killed in the SRA's before the hunter tags one. Elsewhere, we have to tag Deer #1 before shooting Deer #2. Prevents the hunter from dropping two out of a group if the deer give the opportunity (and I've seen them give such opportunities many times). In the SRA, they want more killed, so no reason to "throttle" the take. Elsewhere, slowing it down is fine.

yea i see he removed his post pretty fast. he may be getting a visit from the boys in green.
Hate to say it, but the regulations stating 1 bird per day is not in the 2015-2016 digest hunters receive with their license. Someone prove me wrong.

I just searched every reference for 'turkey' in a downloaded digest pdf and do not see any reference to 1 bird per day.
I don't think it is there.
Yep, it is in the 2014-2015 regs but not the 2015-2016 regs.

I couldn't find it in the digest.
I found it buried in a press release from 4/16.

That would be interesting to see what happened if someone got a citation for two birds in one day after reading the digest. Well as long as that person wasn't me.
It isn't in the current digest ... AN OBVIOUS ERROR

It is however in the regulations in Title 58
