Recovery Tools

What do you all use? I was going to get a Garrett Edge Digger, but OUCH! $40! I can see where something in this line is needed to cut small roots and such. Walking around Home Depot I seen a small hand held hole digger. Its round and has teeth on the bottom, perfect to keep the plug after recovery. Thought this would be useful, but its a bit on the small size.

I dont know what sort of tools you,ve looked at, but this is a Lesche digging tool. It has an offset handle to give you leverage, serated edge for cutting roots, and is made of a good quality steel. The red handle is easy to spot when you lay it down and it tries to hide in the grass, and it comes with a heavy duty woven nylon sheath to hang it from your belt.
As far as price goes, buy the best you can afford. It's better to spend big money once than to spend little money many many times.

Another good digger is the Wilcox #102 just bought 2 maybe a month or so ago and they are a very good digger. Now if your like me and want to go at it the old school way use a coin probe[brass] and a flat screwdriver, was doing it this way today and my recovery was equal to using a digger, just be careful on working it up to the surface.

That Garret looks like it'll get the job done!
Ever use anything like this? Sorry for the questions, I just don't want to get caught up and start buying things I don't need!

What are some good books on this subject? Maybe Ill see if I can get some on my Kindle.
A friend of mine uses one of those BUT you have to be dead accurate in pinpointing to do so. Give it a decade or two before expecting to be that good

. My wife bought me a Garrett ace 250 for my birthday back in February, but said I was on my own to buy the digger. So I bought one of these. Now bear in mind I have zero metal detecting experience, but I have used this digger in my yard a couple times now and it seems to work pretty well. Cut through a couple roots with no trouble at all, and put quite a bit of pressure on it and it did not bend.
That's good to know! Because I just ordered one from the same guy I bought the machine from. I had a bid on Ebay, but it went over the asking price with free shipping. No brainer, I was glad it did. Now Ill get this tool much faster then waiting till the auction is over, for a cheaper price! I believe the next thing Ill get is the Garrett PinPointer. Going to wait a bit though. Although, I do like the idea the Leache has a nice bright handle. Ill see what I can do to put something bright on this Garrett tool.
