here, as in many other forums i see alot of guys post questions, pictures, stories, etc.....
and here is the 1 place in todays world where we all find common ground because we are all sportsmen and women, but each time i see there is a nay sayer, or someone who has some sort of nagativity, so goes the question are we all really one big outdoor family, or are we really that far divided, really makes me wonder....how bout you?

I almost think it's human nature to form some sort of divide among each other regardless of the situation. There's always an "I know better than you" mentality for some reason. No matter what group of people you talk about people always break it into sub groups that end up bickering. Look at hunting. You have hunters as a whole and if non-hunters attack us we stick together. However, within hunting you have deer hunters, waterfowlers, trappers, small game hunters etc. I see small gamers complain about snares, I hear waterfowlers complain about, well, pretty much everything. I hear deer hunters complain about small game hunters. Now let's break it down even more. Within deer hunters you have rifle hunters and archery hunters who once again do their fair share of bickering. Then you can break archery hunters into traditional, compound and crossbow hunters. We could write a book on that one. Hunters to me are like a huge group of brothers. We are all different in our own rights and we all have differing opinions and at times we can get at each other, say negative things and maybe even end up fighting. However, if a non-hunter tried to attack any one of us we would all quickly turn together and stand up for each other. Like I always said to my friends. These are both my brothers, I love em' and I hate em' and we've been known to throw a punch or two but only we are allowed to punch each other. If anyone outside of us three wants to take a shot at it they'll have to deal with all of us.

I'd say it's like family you may not like that one person in it but if someones doing something to them and have a problem you'll step in. And that is kind of like what hunters and sportsmen(hunters, trappers, fishermen) do. So if law or some group tries to attack hunters and sportsmen we all get together and fight it. Kind of like the ESOS thing.

I have had some pretty heated debates here with a few guy's.
But if I met them today I would shake hands as a friend.

Character makes the person more than just their views on issues.

i think online forums and posts are a great way to connect with other like minded folks... But i also think that when we remove the 'human' connection from a conversation or debate, it can lead to misunderstandings. I think that the online community can create "tough guy" syndrome. I dont mind a spirited debate, what i do mind is when folks resort to personal attacks against other posters.... Its Ok for us to disagree about hunting styles, etc., but if its not a matter of ethics or legality, then its a matter of preference, which we are all entitled to. But there will always be people, even within our community, who will attempt to elevate themselves by putting down another.
