A buddy of mine and I are trying to figure out how we are going to plant his hunting property. It is mountain ground, so we know we will have to lime and prepare the soil. One of my questions is what can we plant in an area that will attract deer in the summer and early fall, but not really later in the year during rifle season? Also, what works well later in archery through winter?

My experience winter peas attract the deer early, but are all eaten up by the time rifle season comes around...

Late archery into rifle season, I like oats and wheat mixed with crimson clover. Brassicas will come on strong, usually after a few good frosts depending on deer density and their familiarity with them as a food source...
