I am thinking about adding some mods to my traps. My question is, Will the welding the plate on the frame and putting a little extra on the end of the trap jaws cause the springs to heat up and lose their strength. I know alot of guys mod their traps and don't have this issue, but do you all take the springs off first?

I've never done it myself but I'd take the springs off first. Not that much extra work. Disassemble and you'll be sure to get it right. Good luck my friend

Definetly take the springs off. If you touch them while welding they will break. Talking from experience, tried to save time, cost money. For coon I wouldn't bother moving the J hook to the center but for fox I would also use better J's than the factory ones.

The only mods i make to my coon traps is 3 working swivels , and new springs ( MUSIC WIRE ) if needed , no need for welding stuff onto a coon trap unless your putting double jaws on them !!!!!
