Well, I received my permit reservation in the mail today for a Pymatuning Goose Blind. This is the first time I applied for one since 1989 when I drew one. I had asked on an earlier thread what it was like there since I haven't hunted there in 27 years and a majority of you had said that I'd do much better anywhere else. So that being said, if anyone is interested, more than likely there will be an open blind for anyone who wants it on October 24th (Saturday).

No No and NO!! Your first time in they punch a hole in your license. Once punched you can't hunt on a reserved date unless you go no show and then draw back in.

Well trapper I was wrong and did not hunt your date. I got an invite on a reserved hunt just prior to deer season and decided to take a chance on some migration ducks. No shows will have to wait until Dec and Jan.

Yea hear you later or super early is the past times. Not that they are that great. We are gong up the 16 th (??). Or Dec. late . Had one buddy that had a chance at offers by 5 different dates. In fact any one want to go the 16 th. if we do go there are only two of us, at least right now. Will have enough decoys and extra blind cover in case, I 'll be duck hunting if right blind. Just the luck of the draw. Field report from friend at blind behind management build is not good at all.

I hear ya, we are in on 11-23 and hope for a duck push and then a ducky location. The gadwall and some flight mallards should be here by then. We had 11-22 two years ago and were covered up with ducks. Let us know how you guys do.

My brothers and I were in the blinds on 11/5, last Saturday and were extremely disappointed. We have been skunked before but at least we saw plenty of geese. This trip we saw MAYBE 100 birds, MAYBE!
Sure is a difference from the many times we've been there and saw thousands.
There were 4 birds shot Saturday and we saw 3 of them drop.....
At the register building, they said they had fed the night before????????What????

Typical day at Pymie. It will never be like it once was. The days of large flights are over and the game commission has to realize it. The place has out lived it's usefulness. Close the blinds and open the land around the management building and let nature take it's course.

Back when the seasons were shorter Pymie was a mecca for flight birds. Longer seasons and increased limits has hurt the resident population so much that a good percentage of the land is being under utilized. Don't need all that land for such a small population of birds. Flight birds are no longer stopping and replacing the harvested local birds.

They ARE in the evening feed mode, not sure why, its a pattern we normally dont see until deer season into December....but we've been watching them now for 10 days or so now.....got 7 tonight, 2 singles and a flock of 5, but right after shooting hours they were pouring into the field...fwiw, this has been a banner year for geese for us in the SJB zone, best year we've had in a long time....
