Saw something interesting today. Sorry i dont have pics i dont take my phone with me in the rain. I was walking on a steep bank in the woods that has small piles of wine berry bushes weeds etc.. when all the sudden a turkey flew up inches from my face scared the crap out of me. I looked down and counted 15 eggs which is positive but what amazed me was there was a dead opossum about a foot away from the nest. Wasnt dead maybe a day or so but the eyes were poked out and multiple holes poked through the skull. Never realized they were that protective. 37 years old and never saw that before thought it was pretty neat to beat the crap out of a predator and a bonus last night i called in a coyote that was heading towards that nest until i let out a soft yelp and he came in on a string. 20 yard broad side shot the rest is history. Been trying to get him for a couple years and finally got him.

Something similar happened to me many years ago on a Pocono GL. I was walking down a trail and was just stepping across a tiny creek when a hen exploded right in front of me and land about 10 yards away. As she was taking to the air I noticed a brood of tiny chicks just scatter and hide right at my feet. I carefully backed away and watched the hen. I figured she'd give me the old "broken wing" routine, but instead she scolded me with constant, loud cutting. I decided to go back the trail the way I came and she escorted me out, cutting hard the whole time from only a gun barrels length away from me.
After about 100 yards, I was concerned about pulling her away from her poults...she wouldn't leave me... so I sat down at a tree and just purred to her. It calmed her down and she made a 180 degree semi-circle around me and headed back to her poults.

I was hunting back in the "middle of no-where" but was hoping someone would have come along to see this cool sight. It looked like I was walking my pet turkey. Of course no one did.
