Not a coy pond, but not a Pymatuming either. Looking to build about a 1/2 ac pond. I have a spring that runs 11 mo out of the year through a small valley, right now it is running a 2 pencil wide stream and there hasnt been real rain for a while. There are 3 others that seep and keep the dirt moist on the uphill side, and one on the downhill that I could develop. There is a spot where the manufactured dam would be 12' wide at the most. There is some clay in the ground to use.

Anyone ever build a pond?

My ex-brother-in-laws have done a few . If I remember correctly , you may have to get permits of some type . But I'm not positive on that .

Talk with the Butler County Soil Conservation people. They should be able to answer your questions.

Creating a pond legally will be nightmare that I assure you you do not want unless you've got a lot cash and time. Depending where you are and what the stream classification is you may not be able to do it at all. I'm a civil engineer that does this type of permitting, so if you're really interested PM me. Off the record though, you will want to compact everything and the berm should have as much clay content as possible. You'll also need an outlet structure and probably want an anti-seep collar on the pipe. If it's not done correctly and it's actually in a stream channel it could well go washing away one day.

Also just remember nowadays all surface waters are now owned by the government. If you build it without permits and one day decide to do something on the property that does need permitting and they figure out this thing is classified as a dam and doesn't have a dam permit you'll be up poop's creek without a paddle.

Shiftyshad is correct about some things i build ponds for a living. All around your area. f you try to do this yourself it will be a nightmare for you. If your serious about doing this. And want a company who specializes in this to come and give you an estimate PM me and i can have someone from our company come out and look it over with you. We have a great reputation with the fish commission and do alot of stream and habit restoration with them
