I took a trip up to Clarion this past weekend to fish Piney Dam and caught this unusual looking smallie. The marking is indented evenly from one side of the tail up to and around its head and back down the other side. I have heard a little about them only being in this section of the river. Does anyone have some more information on these smallmouth. Pretty neat looking fish.

Very nice smallie! Is there any public boat launches or do they charge a fee? Would like to hit that here soon!

There are public launches in that section of the river. It get's a lot of pleasure boat traffic, it's best to fish early in the morning.

I agree with John. It's not very wide there and with lots of pleasure boats it gets a little tough to fish. The river is gets deep real quick just off shore. Not what you might expect. Fishing was pretty tough for us that day but it was a good time overall.
