Here are a few pictures from our days of making maple syrup this year.........We have used a wood fired block arch for quite a while, and this year dad decided to take it upon himself to design a homemade evaporator, as the cost of the commercial ones are pretty steep......so, we cobbled this thing together out of an old woodburner, some angle iron, firebrick, and scrap stainless for the pans......Next year it will have a steam hood, and pre-heater mechanism (We ran out of time this year), and will be moving in to a permanent sugar shack.........

And yes, it uses hard coal stokers for the heating mechanism.......

Very cool Buckshot, I have been reading these posts and looking at the pics. Glad to see you put some up!

That homemade system looks great!
