Changing Opening Day of PA Deer Rifle Season
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that will permanently move the opening day of Pennsylvania Deer Rifle Season back to the Monday after Thanksgiving.

The annual deer rifle season is special in Pennsylvania. My office received a number of letters and phone calls regarding the impact of moving opening day to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Local business owners and hunters seem aligned that the move of opening day has hurt businesses and many of the traditions associated with the longstanding original opening day. Currently, deer season begins the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It has been this way since a change in 2019.

This legislation will not affect Sunday hunting, nor will it determine the duration of the season. It is my hope that you will join me in supporting legislation to change opening day back.

Regardless of what I think about any given topic, I wish the legislators would stay the heck out of anything to do with game and fish management. And I wish everyone whining to their legislators would just shut up and realize that their opinion does not represent all sportspeople out there.
I could maybe understand this response….if the BOC wasn’t a total political appointment. The BOC appointments are made by the governor. The BOC then make the laws….with no necessary background!!

How about ruining a tradition that ran strong for 64 years!!
You won't have to look hard to find my true feelings about that. But the only thing that would be dumber and more divisive and destructive than the initial reasons given for making that change would be to change it back again now. I hated the change and there are many revisionist historians on here who want to use smoke and mirrors about why it was done.

But as damaging as the move has been among hunters themselves I think I would hate it even more for it to change back now. Time to move on and hunt.

My gosh, it was SO nice to log on here for a month or so and not read anything about this STUPID FREAKIN TOPIC.

And now here we are.............................YET AGAIN. And I was stupid enough to chime in. I just want to scream. Guess it's time to get off of HPA for a couple months again until maybe, just maybe this crap can blow over. But I doubt that it will. Later fellas.
