I'm against eliminating AR for anyone except juniors, disabled or active military but for sure shoot any legal buck you want. I certainly do (when I bowhunted I did tend to hold out for a good buck.) I personally just find shooting fawns and cubs to be very undesirable. I killed a yearling,105lbs. I was 13 and it was actually my first experience big game hunting. I was very happy and so was everyone else for me but even then I knew I had killed a bear that I should've let go and would've with more experience. I would love to get a PA bear but I'll never even shoot a yearling again to do it.

....wait a second...
Then why was Gary tramping around with a small rack in one hand....and a wayyyy bigger rack rack in the other .. saying you want left hand or right hand?.....
😁
Because he was dangling a carrot infront of hunters to get them to commit to his program. And it worked. And at the time, he needed to show off those big racks for people to swallow how far the herd was reduced in certain areas.
Loridr is spot on. It was NEVER about big bucks regardless of how bad some want it to appear that way.

I have no idea how anyone can be for or against removing senior AR without seeing the breeding rates that are being achieved. Then if it were removed, there would need to be a trial and measurement period to see what those results are. If the does would still be getting bred, there would be no biological reason to re-implement senoir Ar at that point.

A cub is legal to shoot, as is a yearling deer, bears stay with mama 2 years, in that time, a fork horn buck is deemed as killable by an old man by some, while a bear that has not lived past his second year is somehow taboo to kill. Still trying to understand why it is ok to raise trophy bear but slaughter all deer with a rack.

Regular Joe, they typically stay with their mothers for about a year and a half. They're born in the den one winter and den with their mother's the next winter and emerge with their moms a second spring but are usually run off around May/June.

Once the guts are out, all are judged by their size, why the disparity in saying "oh that poor little bear, but screw that buck, let him die?" In the end, size wins out everytime.

Size does not win every time. How can anyone claim that people say "screw the buck, let them die?" There are more big and trophy sized bucks out there right now than there has been possibly ever in this state. There are literally trophy bucks being killed all over the state every year. How in the world are they growing that big if people are saying screw it kill them????
Fact of the matter is that with all of the posted ground in this state anymore and the fact that we have lost over 300,000 hunters makes AR less relevant. AR is not about trophy bucks. It is about getting the does bred. Bigger bucks is simply a byproduct af saving said bucks. We are killing around 40,000 to 50,000 fewer bucks annually now than 20 -25 years ago. How can that be if we are killing all "deer with antlers".?

Regular Joe - I think you are one of the best members on here, but I think you are overreacting to this a little bit.

Unless there are lots of bucks dying between their first rack and second, ARr's don't really affect the buck harvest, or your chance of shooting a buck. AR simply delays the harvest of bucks for a year or two if you actually take the time to think about it just a little.

We shoot geese in September that were eggs in June, and have only been flying for a few weeks.
