because they will shoot the small bucks just like the seniors if they remove restrictions for them. if seniors cant have a choice why should juniors. dont hand them anything, make them earn it. they'll appreciate it more
We got to shoot small bucks when we were kids. If we want them to have the same experience, then no ARs. :D I could shoot small bucks for 20 years. 1982-2002.

Might be a good place for a stand.

but I was chomping at the bit to hunt at 12, I don't think being able to hunt sooner would have lit any bigger fire.
Same here, Regular Joe.

Why shouldn't kids age 6-11 be allowed to hunt? What harm is it doing?

I don’t have a problem with 8-11 year olds tagging along with mom or dad to OBSERVE ONLY
Watch and learn. They shouldn’t be issue tags just cause they paid a nominal fee to do so. I know for a fact in some cases the adult shoots the Deer anyway the mentor tag goes on it. Dad gets to hunt another day while the freezer gets fill.
The mentor trout seasons has failed also. Too many adults fishing while their child is napping ,eating or tossing rocks in the creek.
it is what it is. People will take full advantage of any implemented laws.

Grown men and women complaining about opportunities for youth. THAT'S the failure.

Well they want kids 15 or younger to drive, change the rules mid stream for all to be included. AARP say's 50 is a senior citizen. Why did I have to wait for 65? Mentor season is 90% adults 10 % kids. Kids under 16 don't need a fishing permit but if you take a youngster out open your wallet. I started hunting and fishing and no one changed the rules for me. At my age if you can't shoot a doe or legal buck you may have to start over.

My only exception would be - Disabled veterans and disabled hunters.

That video is from England. My BIL married one of Davey Jones's daughter. Yes the Monkeys singer. She had a house in Juniata county she was flipping and he did her hard wood floors and fell in love with her. He tells me its not uncommon to see herds like that all the time.

Most hunter/parents would rather their kid have success than them. Myself and all my friends as well, we'd rather go a season without getting a deer if it meant the kid had success. That's more rewarding to me than any deer I ever shot.

The few examples you are sighting are crap parents. Terrible people. Selfish and inconsiderate to others. They probably put themselves ahead of their kids in many situations. And definitely put themselves ahead of any other people.

Why punish all the good people because you are afraid that this minority may take advantage. Turn them in, maybe.

whats the difference if a junior or MY can shoot any buck they want or letting seniors have the same choice ?
when i mentioned seniors people thought the herd would be seriously impacted but MY and juniors with out restrictions dont impact the herd...LOL

some seniors here even commented they dont want restrictions removed for them because they dont want to shoot small bucks...then dont. :)

removing restrictions doesnt take away your right to choose

Success rates of seniors should be higher than MY. One person vs two. Less movement, less scent. Far more experience and a ton more patience. Unless they have mobility issues. In that case, I would loosen lots of restrictions on them. Including shooting whatever buck they want with whatever weapon they want.
...less scent?....not from the seniors I know.

Since the inception of the MY program, I have yet to see any data that an insufficient number of does are being bred as a result of it.

and there wont be any change if the restrictions are removed from seniors either.

HEY...lots of folks are wondering whats happening with the turkeys...i think its that extra spring tag....not enough gobblers to breed the hens

I don't know what happened to the turkeys. Even down home, where they aren't really hunted, I went from seeing them almost daily to not seeing a single turkey in 10 years. Used to be a ton that lived in the woods behind the kids' school. Definitely no hunting there. And they all disappeared.

bohunr - agree 100%. Let Seniors choose what they want to shoot. More and more Seniors each year stop hunting (age) or pass away. There are not enough youth to make up the loss. AR change to allow Senior to shoot any size buck will not hurt the population. It probably will save some 2 1/2 year old and older bucks that don't get shot by Seniors who shoot a smaller one - that will make the antler crowd happy as they are not shooting their bigger bucks. Thanks.

Bingo!! I've taken my share of deer - but seeing our sons get their deer is more satisfying. I went to extra, extra lengths to set up stands and cut shooting lanes for them to have a better chance at seeing deer & getting clean shots. They helped cut the shooting lanes too, making for more good times together in the preparations. Worth every minute!!

We give up eating beans, cabbage, hard-boiled eggs, sauerkraut, etc. for deer season. That ripping sound you hear is velcro on my hunting boots ........

You learn through experience. I believe that the best way to learn how to kill big old bucks is to learn how to kill small ones and work your way up. Sure you had it tougher when you were younger that doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with providing better opportunity through MY.

Why not add in a management tag only good for bucks that don’t meet antler restrictions. That way those guys with the big spikes and 4 points that never get any bigger can get rid of them. Charge $100 or $200 for it so that people will only buy it if they really want to get rid of that specific deer.
