I like shooting recurves and longbows but every once in awhile I got to get out my favorite Osage self bow. I take it out hunting but haven't killed anything with it. I had a couple of chances at some little Does but couldn't bring myself to shoot them.

That's one of the arrows I just finished and shoots well out of the self bow. I'm good out to 20 yards but am deadly 15 yards and under. Something about hunting with a self bow and a couple of arrows in your Quiver to take you back to a different time when Archery was simple.

Nice looking bow! Did you make it? I hunt with hickory longbows that I make. Hickory is everywhere and it's hard to break. Range is about the same. 20 yards about max.

I still have my first one from the '60s. It has cracks around the grip so I can no longer shoot or even string it. I reigned more terror on the critters with it than Sitting Bull. Never did shoot a deer with it. Switched to a recurve when I turned 12. Fond memories from youth with it, though. I did knock a Dove out of the shy with it. Pure luck. LOL!!

Sorry to say I didn't make that bow. I bought it from a fella named Jim Crow from Oklahoma. I made one Osage Self Bow at a bow making class that shot good but it needs retillered.
