This weekend I had a cool surprise in one of my fox sets. A nice female Fisher, guessed at 34-36" nose to tail.

I took a few pictures of her then had the fun of releasing her from a 1.5cs on the back foot.

A really cool creature that I planned on targeting this year. But never did the thought cross my mind that I'd catch one there...
No sign that I found and they never spotted one on this property before.

Anyone think I have a reasonable chance at trapping it or another one there when the season actually opens?

I know where there's two of them, just wondering what lure or bait to use on them?

not trying to sounds like a deek, but fisher arent all that hard to trap. they have relatively low numbers, so its not easy for anyone to catch one, but where they exist, they are not entirely hard. i've taken them, in season and out, and other than the couple day short season, dont target them, and still average about 1 a year in my fox sets. anything you normally use for bait should work, though i've found deer liver to be a nice [and free] bait to use.

the first fisher i've taken from a property- all of them i have- i didnt realize there were fisher there, so if there's one there, there's more than likely more and you dont realize it. if you have any evergreens, i'd target heaver there as almost all i've taken have come in or next to hemlock patches, but wherever you took yours shows they're there too.

the hardest thing about keeping one is getting it in the short season, but if they're on the property, and you're properly setting canine sets, you're gonna pull one from time to time, and even having to release them is still fun.

Any loud sound based call lures. Caven's Gusto lure really pulls them in. I won't use it on canine sets till fisher season starts. That stuff is so loud that an unopened sealed bottle can stink up a room or vehicle.

It was near a thicket of brush/pines I'd have to say probably 200yds from it on an old logging road.

Used a rotted stump for a dirt hole with red fox urine and an old jar of bait that just had fox/coyote written on the side with MT on the lid. No idea what brand it is but the week before that set was tore up pretty bad with a catch ring slightly larger what this Fisher did.

I remade it added a little more urine on the stump and a dab of bait in the hole. No action all week until Sunday when the Fisher was waiting for me
