I'm out, and boy is it foggy! Could of shot a huge doe on Saturday from this stand but left her walk, wanted a buck the first day. If she comes by today I don't think I'll be so generous!! Good luck to everyone that's able to get out today!

My 9 year old son got a doe on Saturday but he wants to get a buck so this evening I'll be on stand with him again. I will not be hunting until he gets lucky or it gets too cold out for him around November.

Hit an 8 pt around 7:30. Snuck in behind me and was literally on top of me in a split second. Stood up, grabbed bow and drew all in one motion. Hit the buck slightly back, but am telling myself I had to catch the liver and one lung. It was a chip shot, no excuses. Clean pass through with what appears to be bubbles around the fetching. Deer ran 50 yds up hill, seemed kind of woozy, would walk 5 yds stop, walk 5 stop. Did that until he was out of sight. Had a smaller 8 and another buck sparring underneath me before daylight. Got pics of both of them. Ended up seeing 14 deer and all within 15 yds within 2 hours. Definitely the best early season morning hunt I ever had. I backed out quietly after an hour and Heading out this afternoon and hoping for the best.

Big mistake IMO, the rut is weeks away.

Never make a chip shot on a 8 point buck on day 2. Post the pics of the 2 bucks!

I've gone four years without a buck kill with a bow. Figured I only get so many opportunities. He wasn't the buck I was after, but not one I'd pass up in November either. It was the first time I ever hunted this spot. I knew it had tons of potential, but actually saw it today. Hoping I can find this one and let my dad go after the big non-typical I was hoping for. Fingers crossed

Way to go Drew and way to back out! I agree with everyone. If you suspect he's liver shot, give it until 3. Spend the next few hours sharpening your knife!

I had a slow morning. Sat until 10:30 with zero deer sightings. Climbed down and did some quick power scouting, found where I should've been. Small group of white oaks further out the mountain are getting pounded. Several fresh scrapes including one that looked to have been worked this morning. That's where I'll be thursday evening.

Back at it tomorrow!
