As in dipping smelt? I used to do quite a bit of that in college.
Tried it once, dumbest thing ever. Me and 2 buddies went down made 3 swipes filled a 5 gallon pail went home. Nothing but a bunch of ignorant drunks yelling and screaming and russians breaking the law. Not my cup of tea, to each their own though! Have fun, where do you go? We went to the Niagra

We always jigged ours up through the ice. But I have netted for them, and really enjoy eating them.
