I cleared a small spot last year to put in a little food plot just to try it out. During the time between clearing (string trim and a good heavy raking) and seeding (just clover) I noticed a substantial amount of maple start to pop up. What I'm wondering is... does anyone think this would be a reasonable way to make a half acre on a hill side much more attractive to browsing wildlife or would this not be the norm for regen? Any input is appreciated.

Yes it is the norm. 2 ways to approach it are to get rid of it since they are pioneer trees and usually less prefered as a food source and it will stunt your plot OR forget the clover plot, let it grow, see what comes up then make bedding 1/2 cuts in a few years.
