My Daughter jumped over this on her run today !! No rattles that I can see . She said it hissed ! Head a little funky ! What does anyone think ? Since no rattles and a thick looking body I’m leaning Copperhead ? Milksnake maybe but even for a copperhead colors are off !

Not a copperhead. I would have guessed milkshake with the stripes but would have been wrong.

Get up close and look at the eyes, ha, ha!

Yup, northern water snake. Most ive seen are more on the brown side in color than that one. And they do think that they are all that! They act pretty tough usually.

Northern Banded Watersnake
I meant to mention water snake in post but didn’t ! She runs near a large creek and I’ve been around all these creeks near us for 60+ yrs and I have never seen a water snake near the creeks ! Allegheny River about 12-15 miles away and I have seen many water snakes there !

Thank you all ! I need to learn these scale patterns on snakes better . It’s kind of hard taking a close look at their eyes 🤣 ! We have Timber Rattlers , copperheads and a few miles away the “black snappers” Massasauga

Massasauga's have rattles.
You are correct , I don’t know where I got in my head they had no rattles ! We live close to their domain and my Dad (RIP) was a rural mail carrier years ago and he found a dead Massasauga on the road . He ask a group of young kids if they could find him a container to put the snake in ? One little girl brought him a soup can !!
