couple things stand out to me.

People new this boy was odd. His mother also was fully aware.

This boy spent much of his time in the basement of there home..Which had a big flatscreen TV and an "elaborate set-up for video games".

When the boy was in school.
"Someone in the class brought in a video game called "Counter-Strike," a first-person shooting video game in which players compete against each other as either terrorists or counter-terrorists, Frost said.
Lanza "seemed pretty interested in the game," Frost recalled, and would play it with other students. He remembers the weapons Lanza chose: an M4 military-style assault rifle and a Glock handgun."

His mother waited till after the boy was 18 to seek help for him.

This could have been prevented.

Everyone will scream and protest that most kids are not effected by our modern violent perverted society..and although many are not.....Here is one that it did.

If anyone puts any stock in that article, or any article of this type in which an interview is twisted to get the story the media wants.....god help you!

Posting it on a site like this, giving them even more page views, just makes this whole situation worse and will take longer to blow over.....the kid was warped, lots of kids play video games with no issues and this kid obviously had something else going on as per his moms on statements, mom kept guns in house NOT IN A SAFE, and kid goes off using guns to hurt mother and others....who do I blame??? Not a bad mental health system, not a gun, not a video game, I blame the whackjob who killed all those innocent kids and his now dead mother for being equally dumb to keep guns unlocked in a house with a son she apparently knew was nuts....it sure is sad she and all those children are dead, but she could and should have done more...if nothing else getting a gun safe woulda been a GREAT start!!! Maybe he would have gotten guns elsewhere, but he sure wouldnt have had such easy access to them, the blame starts with mom!!!

Gentlemen,
This kid was evil, make no mistake. Sure the bad judgement of his mother did not help and his father was no where around. Looking to assign blame to a gun or how they are kept, is not what this is all about, heck I was raised with a loaded gun above the doorway in my Grandfathers home in Potter County. When society removes God and Guns from
school, teaches that abortion is ok, and now with Obama Care initiating death pannels, it's no wonder evil like this happens. Now we have even more evil people screaming for Gun Control to remove your God given inallenable rights,
using the evil to create even more evil. Ben Franklin said it best, when man gives up his God given freedom for safety, he deserves neither safety nor freedom. There will
always be evil, in this world. Never give up your freedom because of it's existance.

I'm proud of a few of you for saying what needs said!

The kid was screwed up. He is to blame. His mother is to blame as well.

Thank you for not sugar coating!

Refer to the last few posts in the thread about "stir about hunting in a park" if you'd like to read my views.

Its time we are HEARD!

Apparently his mother had plans to move him and herself to Washington state and placing him in a nuthouse out there somewhere and this deeply disturbed adam so he planned her death and the deaths at the school..He should have been in a straight jacket in a rubber room with rubber guns to play with so he could not hurt anyone or himself..She gave him free access to guns and also trained him on the range..It is a sad situation..So many families grieving..

The kid was a nutcase..no doubt his mom new it and others as well.
And as far as violent video games and TV show's, movies ect....sorry folks i didn't realize it was such a wholesome family activity. let's just all sit down and pretend we are mass killers complete with all the blood and gore...Yes i can see now our society is so much better off now that we have these things in our homes.

Oh lord, here we go again. People seriously need to stop pushing blame away from the perpetrator. Blaming the video games for causing some kid to shoot people is like blaming semi-automatic weapons for the shooting in Newtown.

I have been playing first person shooters since I was 12. I will be 29 in February. I have played Counter-strike for years, I do not run around shooting people thinking it's a game. I have the mental capacity to differentiate between the real world and a video game. Those that do not have that capacity probably should not be playing these games, but that falls on the parents of said child(ren.)

Contrary to what the media throws out there, these games do not "train you" to shoot, they do not jade you to the aspect of killing another human being, and they don't impregnate your 16 year old daughter. It's a game. Nothing more, nothing less. If your child has mental deficiencies where he could mistake a virtual world for the real world, then it's your job as a parent to get them the help they need.

Counter-strike is indeed a first person shooter.

+1

People do bad things and they have since the first man-ape walked the earth. Blaming video games, movies, lack of religion or any other nonsense on why someone goes on a killing spree is just as dumb as the anti-gun nuts blaming it on guns. So many on here sound just like the anti-gun types blaming or wanting banned video games, violent movies, comic books, internet porn, lack of god in our culture(w/e that means),etc. instead of blaming the criminal that committed the crime.

We don't need to ban certain types of guns, games or movies. Individuals should have the right to own guns, AR or otherwise. Individuals should have the right to watch violent movies or video games, watch porn, read whatever books they want, believe in god or not if they choose.

Bad things happen but we need to protect our individual freedoms or we might as well just get it over with and burn the Constitution now and stop playing around the edges of it killing our rights.

I posted this on my FB page;

If video games caused the shooter to kill all those children, then because I played Super Mario Bros, I should expect mushrooms or coins to come out of a box if I hit it with my head??

The blame game is symptomatic of today's society; Take no personal responsibility.....find something to blame!

#16 ·
why is it everyone starts jumping to conclusions?...who said anything about blaming video games?

The kid was nuts...He was into the games he played..did it cause him to go over the deep end? who knows...did it help him ? did it benefit him in any way?...does that kind of stuff really benefit anyone? Give me a break. i'm not buying it..violence even if it's pretending is a good thing?...lol....don't matter how thin ya slice it....it's still bolonga

^^^^That's what the anti-gun types would say about guns.

No difference at all just one doesn't want people to have guns and feels they have no value and one doesn't think people should be see violent/sex in entertainment and feels they have no value.

Yes the kid was a nut case but the world we live in is filled with nut cases and I defy anyone to pick out which kids they are when they are becoming exposed to the violently graphic games and movies out there today.

Are the movies and games the guilty party? No they aren’t but make no mistake about their contributions to the desensitized violent behavior we are seeing so much of today.

The fact is those same video games and the principles they use are also used as tools to train some of our most elite military forces. The reason they are used is partly to desensitize them to both the act and graphic images of close combat and partly to train them to quickly and without thought take out targets before them, generally by using headshots because that is the fastest way to remove the threat.

All of you should read a book titled, “Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill: A Call to Action Against TV, Movie and Video Game Violence.” By Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman. It is a very good book that explains exactly what we are seeing in all of these mass shootings, how and why it is occurring and about the only ways we can counter it.

I am also going to include a couple links to Lt. Colonel Grossman’s Biography and also a videoed interview where he discusses some of the psychological aspects of killing.

Watch that video and you will have a much better understanding of where we have evolved to as a society and why.

The root issue still lies with the individual and their mental status. As I said above, I have been playing these violent games for almost two decades. Some of my favorite movies are violent. I'm not running around town shooting up people screaming "BOOM HEADSHOT!" because I watched it in a movie. I'm not unknowingly an elite killing machine. I'm not immune to the nauseating effects of gore in the real world. Heck I have never punched anyone, even after I myself was sucker punched. Why? Because I DON'T want to hurt people -- it's WRONG. I play these games and watch these movies for the reason they're made -- entertainment. IT'S NOT REAL.

I was brought up being taught the difference between right and wrong. I have the common sense to extrapolate what continues to be right and wrong. Playing violent video games and watching violent movies affects those morals in absolutely no way.

If someone runs off shooting school children, movie patrons, or random civilians -- something is wrong with THEM. Something has been wrong with them. It wasn't the semi-automatic rifle, the pistol, the video game, or the toilet seat that made them do it.

-------------------------

I did not watch the video you posted, Dick. Mainly because the title of the book already screams "This is ridiculous!" at me. To the point of pointing out these nut cases, look at the coverage of previous shootings. You will likely find a quote to the effect of "Something just wasn't right with him." or as the original post said "His mother waited till after the boy was 18 to seek help for him." It's not that the signs weren't there, it's the fact that people deny the signs exist at all until it's too late.

In my opinion, if you want to get a better understanding of why we're seeing these acts of violence -- look at the parents and the (lack of) parenting that was done, and the mental health of those that commits these acts.

So tell me why members of the military and law enforcement, who are TRAINED TO KILL, aren't out there shooting up schools???

Oh, that's right, they aren't crazy wackos!

I'm sorry, I just don't blame the movies and games. You don't have to be "trained" to walk up to someone at point blank range and shoot them. He wasn't in a combat situation.

This just proves that evil exists in our world and that we must prepare and protect ourselves from it by any means neccesary.

Yes, it does.
And while Prevention Pre-Shooting is far, far from 100%, it is a shame that so many appear to abandon that P, simply because it is difficult, costly, unsure and carries no trigger or high-five.
You can close the gates, raise the drawbridge and man the battlements, but you have also accepted the end.
For Evil will never leave those gates on it's own and your ability to fight becomes soley defensive.
Defense is an important factor surely, but limiting and short-sighted long-term.
But, limited and short-sighted long-term is likely unimportant for those who believe that only a couple of years are left to us and we will be whacking and stacking folks on our front lawns soon thru all manner of disasters and tragedys.
In a sad and angled way, it is yet one more example of "get yours, I got mine, stay out"...or, the "Locate, Lease and Lock Up" so common today.
I know one thing...I'm glad I'm 60.
Too many folks in the woods and fields that I no longer recognize.

Traskoutdoors...

Last time i checked they weren't taking kids into the military and law enforcement. And i think you have to be at least reasonably sane...sorry poor example.

Problem is many of you can't see past your own noses..past "your" little part of the world. So you think hey "i'm ok therefore everything is ok"

Let's stop for a minute and rather than get offended because somebody is bad mouthing your favorite joe commando game...let's once again look at the facts...NOT JUST THE VIDEO GAMES!!

Kid had problems....Mom and dad can't get along...kid got more problems..mom and dad split up....more problems...kid slithers through school keeps close to the wall in the hallway..wears the same clothes everyday. Ya think he DIDN"T GET PICKED ON!!.Kid got more problems.come on folks get real. Kid shuts himself in his room play's violent video games...One day another kid brings one to school. Kids are playing it...suddenly this kid comes out of the box. This is something he's really into.
Mom knows this kid got troubles..he's unstable. She tells him she's shipping him off for help. Problem is this boy is NOW 18 YEARS OLD!!!...woa little late people...this kid has already been programed...in rebellion he commits a mass murder.

Not just the video games!!...but this boy's whole life was a recipe for disaster.......problem is there is a awful lot of people in our society using the same recipe....i for one think it's time for a new cookbook.

Anyone who really thinks the world is more violent today than in the past really needs a history lesson. The world is ten times safer now than in the past.Since man first walked the earth there have been people willing to kill others for no reason at all and there always will be. Man is flawed plain and simple.

Very good, but sad, view of what our sport, and society in general, has become. Although you won't find many in agreement here.
Greed and paranoia have always been a part of our society, but it has become rampant the last few years. I have an idea why but my rational brain refuses to go there.
