I see Garmin has come out with a new GPS and Training unit built into a single handheld. It's not compatible with the Astro system however. Looks like it is a touch screen handheld, not sure that will work in bitterly cold temps. Anyone considering a new unit for their hounds?
I just purchased the Astro 320 this past season.

Andy has one that he is testing, he said the touch screen works with gloves on. So maybe it will handle the cold weather too. I won't be buying one, I like my old telemetry unit, it never fails.

my old Beep Beep is more than good.... That fancy stuff would be nice but I can't justify the price.. I see where coyote hounders use the gps systems to aid in heading off the yotes with more success though... I'm all for killin more yotes.....

Least now one of these days I might be able to afford an old astro if they still will make them or have parts available. Are they gonna still make them? I have been around a few Astros and people who have them love them. I don't really need one but it does buy you a good piece of mind. If the dogs go out on a loop and aren't back for a while at times I do get to worry about them especially if one comes back and the other one doesn't. Never know could be in a trap or God knows what and how are ya gonna find 'em? One time my old female climbed up a leaning tree over 20 feet up and was barking on a squirrel nest when I got there and she fell out coming down. I thought she was dead and was prepared to put her down. Thank God I decided to wait because she wasn't acting like she was in pain but she was down and breathing shallow but she came back to. Anyhow if I was a ways away or didn't get a clear mark on her bark I may have never found her. At least she is smart, that is the last tree she ever climbed. Banged her up pretty good and she hit a tree on the way down.

Yep, my Astro 320 works great.
I still remember the old days of leaving a blanket alongside where our truck was parked only to return the next day to have hounds there waiting
. Sometimes red fox would pull out of an area and go for miles just like the coyote do now. We'd drive all over creation trying to call up hounds.
My how things have changed with modern electronics.
