Need some advice

I value everyones opinion on here but this time I want to hear what everyone has to say. Here is my delema. I currently have a 2003 Hoyt Reflex bow that I have had for almost 7 years. It is a tack driver. At 30 yards I can group 4 arrows into a 16oz bottle cap. It is smooth drawing, great shooting, but has a long ATA, and most likely slow shooting speeds. I have never had it chronographed to see how fast it actually shoots. Now over the past month or so, I have been looking at 2009 Bear truth II, Bear Assault, and Bear Strike. All have IBO speeds of 308 to 320, short ATA around 30 inches, all are smooth drawing. I have a delema of this: I would like to have a shorter ATA bow with a little bit more speed. But do I get rid of a bow that is 7 years old, but shoots tacks at 30 yards, draws smooth, but no parts are made anymore for it if it breaks, Or do I drop the money into a new bow, just for more speed and shorter ATA and to be up on the newest technology? I am not sure what to do, wanted to hear from everyone on how they would solve this delema

Re: Need some advice

If you can truthfully put 4 arrows inside a 16oz. bottle cap at 30yds CONSISTENTLY!!! You do not need a new bow, but rather you need to start getting your backside to the top shoots around the country as you will likely win every dang one.....
Re: Need some advice

Get the new bow man. If they dont make parts for that bow anymore and something happens to it during the season then your gonna end up getting a new one anyway. It would atleast be nice to have a spare bow laying around thats already sighted in incase something like that happens. You have more than one hunting rifle dont you? You should have more than one bow to in my opinion. I have 2 as a fail safe.
Re: Need some advice

WOW!!! 4 arrows in a 16 oz bottle cap at 30 yards is pretty darn impressive. IF I shot that well with my bow I think I would be sticking with it!!! There is no need for all the speed if your bow is somewhat quiet and you can shoot that well. Good Luck and keep us posted.
Re: Need some advice

Are you missing dear because of bow speed or noise?'jumping the string'. Otherwise,if you are shooting bottle caps at 30 yards I wouldn't miss with it. In my opinion deer aren't getting faster so I don't see the need for increasing speed; accuracy kills. I wouldn't buy another bow in your situation. However, if you have the money to blow on another bow, you can never have to many toys
Re: Need some advice

Thanks for all the great words of advice....all good points to take into consideration
Re: Need some advice

Thanks guys....all great thing to consider
Re: Need some advice

Accuracy is much higher on my priority list than speed.....
Re: Need some advice

If you shoot that bow that well, I see no reason to change except that if you hunt from a treestand and the long ATA bow is a problem for you to manuver. More speed? So what? Usually speed comes at the sacrifice of something, noise? accuracy? But hey, if you see a bow that you want try, have the shop set if up and see if you can still shoot out the bottle cap. If not, why change?
Re: Need some advice

If you are shooting 1" groups at 30 yards, you should get a sponsor and shoot their bow. I will help you spend your money and say go for it. Everybody likes new toys.
Re: Need some advice

I have no comment on the bow. However, that's some darned fine shootin', Tex!
Re: Need some advice

Get a new bow & if you can swing it , never give up the old one. Always good to have a back-up thats shoots that good.
Re: Need some advice

I do like my old bow, it is just comfortable, and shoots great. As for shooting competition, I did that while I was in high school, and for 3 years afterwards. I just like to shoot for fun now. But I still have the itch to get a new bow. But, I have been giving thoughts to everyone's comments. Keep them coming.
Re: Need some advice

Every year when the new bows come out I shoot them and ask myself one question. How many more deer with I get because of it?The answer is usually none so I keep my old one.
Re: Need some advice

HaHa....that is a great way to look at it
Re: Need some advice

If you have the coin and can afford it, just buy it. Guys will say I dont need a new bow cause my old one works just fine... But many of them will dump 50K on a new truck too or spend 7500 for a trip out west. It all depends on where you want to spend ur money. Wherever your money goes you will find where your passion is also.
