NBC journalist David Gregory won't face charges for displaying a high-capacity ammunition magazine on his "Meet the Press" news program last month, District of Columbia prosecutors announced Friday.

The city's Office of the Attorney General, which handles low-level crimes, said criminal charges wouldn't serve the public's best interests even though possession of the magazine - capable of holding up to 30 rounds of ammunition - was clearly against local gun laws.

"Influencing our judgment in this case, among other things, is our recognition that the intent of the temporary possession and short display of the magazine was to promote the First Amendment purpose of informing an ongoing public debate about firearms policy in the United States, especially while this subject was foremost in the minds of the public" after the Connecticut school massacre and President Barack Obama's address to the nation, D.C. Attorney General Irvin Nathan wrote a lawyer for NBC........

He said it was a "very close decision" to not bring charges........

"Meet the Press" issued a statement Friday that said: "We displayed the empty magazine solely for journalistic purposes to help illuminate an important issue for our viewers. We accept the District of Columbia Attorney General's admonishment, respect his decision and will have no further comment on this matter."

Of course he was let go....

1).... He is a journalist
2).... He was in Washington DC
3).... He is a Democrat in a Democratic city of the filthiest degree....

and finally...4).... We ALL knew that he would get off because he would USE the 1st Amendment to state that it was for EDITORIAL purposes....

Just as interesting the decision released on a Friday afternoon to get lost in the weekend blur.. or released when most people are not so attuned to the news.

If a citizen would hold up an "illegal" magazine in Washington D.C. and say it is his/her right to have one would the the City Attorney General declare the person was just exercising a journalistic view point and was only in temporary possession of it?

It's only illegal if you put ammo in it. *grin*

I know that's not true. Just having one is illegal, unless you are a liberal "journalist" advancing the ball for the Regime.

I wish that the NRA PR person would have brought an AR onto the set, you know, for "journalistic purposes"...

It would have been nice if the NRA person would have pointed out to Dave Gregory what he just did was illegal and should be arrested like anyone of us would have been.
