I'm leaving at 6:15 to put my black lab down. This is the absolute worse feeling in the world, I really don't know if I can make the drive, for this I'll be relying on my 17 yr old son, but he's not doing much better.

Been down that road several times and it does not get easier as you get older.
Best of luck, and remembering all the good times will get you through this.
Sorry for your loss.

I really feel for ya. We had to have our 15 1/2 year old Setter put down last year and the pain was horrible. I am still hurting. I couldn`t even stay in the room with her. I feel horrible, but I would have lost it to see her die. Good luck and remember the good times.

In the past 10 years I had two yellow labs put down. I just take them to the vets; stay in the room alone for a few minutes, say goodbye and leave with tears in my eyes. They do the rest. I am a widower, live alone, and it took me just 2 months to find a new companion.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's never easy to see them go, and they're never with us long enough.

Condolences!
I think I will be going through this very soon with my Dad's 16 year old Shorthair. We're hoping she closes her eyes one evening and passes on. The thought of looking in her eyes when taking her to the vet is gut wrenching!

Escorting a dear friend to the Rainbow Bridge is one of life's most difficult duties. There's some solace in knowing you're ending their suffering. Some. Sorry for your loss.

That is exactly what we went thru, but she always opened her eyes in the morning. We had to make that oh so horrible decision to end her suffering.

Boy I had to do it with a dog we had 18 years. My kids have been begging for a dog and the thought of having to do that again keeps me against getting another.

had to put my 12 year old yellow lab down last month. I agree with you that its one of the hardest things to do. wife couldn't go with me cause it was too much for her. while driving to the vet Toby looked over the back seat and gave me a look that almost made me turn around and go back home. he had hip dysplasia and had a bad time getting up and walking. even though the vet said I was doing the right thing, it still hurt. tears flowed when I had to leave. prayers are with you.
