That’s why I shoot a 430gr hard cast bullet out of my 45/70 for bear season. Our group goes by whoever knocks them down last gets it.

Normal size black bear are not that hard to kill, if you hit them in the shoulder you either missed or aimed at wrong spot. Bear vitals are further back and the best instruction is to shoot center mass.

They didn't miss. They intentionally shot for the shoulder just like they do on Deer. And they learned the hard way. One guy wounded four or five bear. But he has killed his last two including one this year
