My microwave quit in the middle of heating a baked potato, and I must now delve into the fascinating world of small appliance repair (which I suspect will turn into the expensive world of small appliance replacement). This is a unit mounted over the stove. My question for the experts out there...Do you have to drain the capacitor to change a fuse? I don't have the tools or confidence to do that and I don't really want to get electrocuted.

Here's a tip for ya, if you see a strange looking part and have to ask, "Hmm, I wonder what that does?" Don't touch it.

Here's another, unplug it before making any repairs.

Mine just crapped out. Sears wanted 245$ just to come out and access the thing. I looked at it YouTube it. Bought a new one from Sears for 270$ with a five year replacement agreement.
Talked to a repair man who said life expectancy is about 2.5 years on microwaves anymore.

Yeah, I found that fuse and it tested ok. I tried another part which also turned out fine. We've had this unit almost ten years and I think the cost to repair is just a bit less than the cost to replace. But, I think that's what we need to do, replace it. Perfect timing, right before xmas.
