Would anyone have any observations on grouse hunting in the Michaux State Forest? I'm looking for general locations where credible flushes and/or sightings are possible. I don't require your secret spot, just general locations, roads, crossroads, and the like.

My advice would be to head north or west. Grouse numbers in Michaux are not very good. There are some there but flushing rates are low. There are a few posters on here who have hunted the area (including me) but I don't remember anybody bagging one. A few have been flushed.

I hunt Michaux often for deer and turkey and I can't remember the last grouse I saw there. If you are up for traveling you will do much better. Try Rothrock and Bald Eagle state forests anywhere you can find recent timbering activity. Centre county is a good bet.

Thanks for the comment on Tuscarora. I guess Michaux and Tuscarora are just like South Mountain in MD--places to hunt deer, turkey, squirrels, and fur bearers.
