I was at the Zac Brown Band show last night and never anticipated starting today's thread but when the alarm went off I popped up. Looking to fill tag #2 this morning. Was on em yesterday but had to hunt a new spot today because the farmer has family hunting today. Good luck to everyone.

Quiet in 3C. Trying another spot I haven't been to since last week. Had a few hens yelping a ways off, but I couldn't get them engaged. I'm not real enthused about my current set-up, so I guess I'd better start to think about a plan B. It's supposed to be dry here for another few hours... I'll probably head to the fields once it starts raining.

I was out this morning trying to fill tag #2, set up on a bird that gobbled about a dozen times on the roost. Heard a hen fly down in his direction and then all was quiet. About a half hour later this guy comes charging my decoy from across the field until I changed his mind with a load of #5 hevi shot. I wonder how many fawns and polts I saved by taking him out?

Heard no gobbling today. But I called in a single hen when the rain let up a bit and about 20 min later I called in a flock of 9 birds. My dad got the longbeard at 11 yards. 10 1/2 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. Harvested at 7:50am.

Also saw two bucks. Been seeing bucks like crazy all season in that spot, six in one morning.

I didn't hear anything today. Around 8:00 a hen wandered by. I think she has a next nearby. I've seen a hen here twice before, plus one on a trail camera I have set up here.

When I decided to move around 8:30 I crossed through an area where I shot a bird the second Tuesday. There's a big greenfield over there, but when I got there a farmer came along and began chopping the hay. So I left around 9:45 and another guy was raking hay that was cut a couple of days ago in the field where I park.

Hoping they get all the hay off today, and by Monday things will settle down here.

Steve.
