Forgive my ignorance here but when using maxi balls do you use wadding or not? Also, what is a good starting load as far as grains to shoot say a t/c 320 grain maxi ball?I have a Lyman Deerstalker and have only shot roundballs with it so far but I'm always up for trying a different combination. Thanks for any info and thoughts,Doug.

TC recommended 80 to 100 grains of 2F for their 50 caliber Hawken with a 370 grain maxi. The same recommended loads for a 45 caliber Hawken shooting a 220 grain maxiball.

80 grains is where I would start. Seat the maxi directly on the powder. No wad.

When I did try them I used a wad. This prevented any blowby and also protected the base of the maxi.I no longer use them because they can shift off the load and cause problems. The deer never noticed the difference between the RB and maxi either.
