Day 1-09/17/16

Not sure how much live feed I will post...we'll see!

Gunna take my time..I rather find out there is company before I get my stand in a tree...so far no one parked anywhere..maybe the threat of rain and temps kept people home...this spot used to be my honey hole but while I was away the passed few years it's had tree stands every 50 yards across the small hill..

I really wanna shoot a buck with the bow this year...but gunna have to be pretty decent for me to draw back today...

Hopes are decent...corn on 2 sides..bedding right close..nestled in a white oak cluster..

Thanx!

Nestled in....lost 5lbs of sweat...now giving pints of blood to the mosquitoes...they are tearing me up!

Couple turkeys gobbled as it broke light lol...

Didn't bust anything out walking in and no hunters...so I'm happy that alone!!

Gunna try to hang out till 10 or so...got a camera to hang down on the lower corn field before I go..

Quick nasty little storm chased me out...I went down to the lower corn field and kicked open a scrape and hung a camera... probably won't touch that spot till Halloween or so...lots of resident does..gunna try to leave my better spots alone till Halloween...

In the new spot...there is a lot more sign here than I thought...Apple trees and a thick creek bottom

Biggest issue is the wind...it's a tight ditch..it's blowing 10-20 up on the hill..down here dead calm and swirly.. wind should be coming straight up the valley but that's the obstacle of hunting a tight ditch...

We'll see what happens... again I do plan to come back till Halloween...gunna hang a camera over a scrape under an apple tree when I go...

Got snorted at behind me in the creek (shocker). Heard something in the same spot and turned around to see a bigger bodied deer..I swore I saw a rack but a fawn came into the same hole after it moved out... guessing I was seeing things and it was momma....we'll call it a doe and a fawn for the record lol...

Super thick down here...I'm in an opening and the farthest shot would be 22yds.

So many creek crossings and such it'd be about impossible to predict one..I think my spot is as good as any down here...

Just saw my first buck of the season!

Of course he came from side I didn't expect/want and blew a bunch...he trotted up the hillside...

Looked like maybe a 3 point. Not what I'm looking for so didn't look real hard.

Day 1 recap...2 doe, 2 fawns, 1 1.5yo buck.

Great day...minus the warmth...and bugs!

I will probably revisit that spot in a few weeks..I'm pretty sure the spot I wanna be during the rut is another 100-200yds up the hollow.. basically a four way intersection of ditches..though the spot I hunted this evening is a pretty good funnel..I think id miss seeing a good bit of deer...

So probably go in maybe a morning sit..pull my camera card and walk to the spot I have in mind and see how it looks..

That place is gunna be on fire during the rut..it's gunna be a nightmare to get a buck outta there..I mean..I'm not completely sure how I'm gunna do it... depending on where it runs I may have to pack it out.. definitely gunna be a little picky on what I shoot there..

Back out tomorrow morning...

I have torn feelings...wind is right for one of my best spots for seeing good bucks...crap weather coming late morning..decent low temps tonight...

Downfall....I talked to the land owner...he cut a road in and built a monster box stand...it's 150yds down the hill from where I hunt...bummed..but it actually might make my spot all the better..

I'm hoping the deer do what they always do and cut the top corner feeding through the oaks and browse...if that doesn't yield anything I probably won't go back...

I have a camera in the lower corn field..I was gunna hunt that as it's close to a creek too..but wind isnt good..will probably swap the card when I leave as long as rain is gunna come mid day...

I need the head start! Lol.

That hill was covered in deer when I left...looked like a few different groups of doe with their little ones...

Land owner said he's been seeing a bunch of doe but hasn't seen a buck...

I checked my camera..good trail down the corn field edge...

Almost every evening and through the night doe and button bucks...

I'm probably not going back to that farm till Halloween...leave those doe there...

Tomorrow is my last day "stuck" in 2B and I'm kinda glad..I have a GPS full of spots logged between home and elk county and most I've never archery hunted...

2 days off make camp trips and such tougher but I have basically the 2nd and 3rd week of November off and 4 more days to add to the mix of days to burn...gunna end up working 4 day weeks with mon-wed off from Halloween till Flintlock lol.

I work hard and it seems to pay off..even though I got a new job, I still seem to get treated well..I don't ask for much...just some days to chase critters in the fall...

Wind picked up..leaves and acorns falling hard..woods are really starting to open up...I love this time of year!!

I don't know if I will get out this evening...wait to see when the storms come...

I think I'm gonna sleep in tomorrow...my allergies are on fire..I felt like a train wreck this morning...

Actually fell asleep this afternoon...didn't mind figured it was gunna storm..that was a 10 minute sprinkle...had to take care of the coon dogs kennel anyways so got that done...

Probably sleep in..cut the grass...shoot the bow then find a watering hole to hunt...water gotta be the hot spot right now...it's scarce...

Ive lost so much access here at home it's getting tough to hunt...the few spots I have left are best in the rut and I need to leave them be...

Still feel like a train hit me...

Cut the grass...gunna go shoot for a bit and head out...I've never hunted this spot...but I coon hunt it regularly..2 small ditches come together and there is always water in one of them and some heavy crossings...each ditch has an apple tree...corn everywhere...they SHOULD be bedded real close by so I hope it stays breezy to cover my noise...

I had a buck bed 50yds from this spot and a scrape right where I'm gunna hunt a few years back.

I know many wouldn't dare enter such and area....I see it differently...deer done 90% of their day bedded...the closer I can get to his bed the better odds I might see him before dark...if I bust him outta there I move on with life..I think the water may be the ticket...and it's a nice cool shady area...if I was a deer I'd be there lol...

I got snuck in here...found a tree..hung my first 2 sticks...climbing back up with my 3rd stick in my hand and stand on my back (lots of cover..can't get higher)

I look at where that buck bed was to see if I could see it from the tree...

I spot movement...

Coyote!!

Moving steady for the creek crossing...

I climbed down...got my stand off my back...fought with my bow rope and got it untied...

Got an arrow out..

Got drawn...settled the pin and let her fly!

A touch low/back I think but that grizztrick aughta done the trick...I thought I heard it crash just up the hill...

I can see my arrow but through the range finder I can't tell...90% sure I smoked it...sounded like a good hollow chest hit...

I really like this spot but the tree options are slim...the tree I'm in isn't thick enough for a climber...

Lone wolf stands aren't cheap...but that's not the first animal I've seen while setting g the stand...I've NEVER seen anything while using the climber...you don't noticed the noise till you try a lone wolf...

Hopefully i can find the yote...my experience tracking them I've learned they can be tough to get good blood from and tough to find...hope he didn't make it to the cornfield...

I am pretty sure I heard him crash 50yds away..

Got blood. Trailed 40yds to near the field edge. Going to get the truck and my good light.

They don't bleed like a deer...1 1/4" 4 blade should have it leaking bad...
