I miss the days of knowing anything you bought with a Cabela‘s name on it was going to be quality. I’m looking to update my rain gear and I can’t find anything on the website that suits me. I’ve had a Cabela’s gift card for probably going on two years now and every time I try to use it they don’t have what I want, they don’t have my size, they no longer carry the brand I wanted, and something I was interested in was $30 cheaper on Amazon. I miss the old Cabela’s.
I’ve had this Skyline Apparition gortex for as long as I can remember. Still waterproof, but as noisy as they come. Made in the USA

Not Cabelas, but Bass Pro... was there last Friday with a buddy who was ready to spend some $$$. Went in walked over to the first boat guy we saw. He was useless and brought us to a second guy who was just a little less useless. Long story short my buddy told the guy he wanted a 40 horse Mercury and asked how long it would take to get. Salesman told him anywhere from 2 months to whenever. Salesman told him production is way down and the ones they get go on boats. Needless to say no motor was bought. We then proceeded to the trolling motors. My buddy tells the saleswoman, "I want that on". She says let me check and see if we have any. She then shows him the availability list of that model and any other model that requires chips. The answer was zero... none. Buddy says can I order one from another store and have it shipped here. She checks again and says no other store has one.

So my buddy goes there looking to buy two motors and walks out with an $8 coffee cup... 😂

We're living in some sad times.

On a good note the ammo section was overflowing. Of course they had everything except 35Rem.

I was in 2 stores in 2017, the Wheeling store and the one in Buffalo NY I think. We went to the Wheeling store with long lists of stuff we needed for out NL moose hunt. The service we received was exceptional, the guy bent over backward helping us get what we needed at the price levels we were prepared to spend. It was a very fun and enjoyable experience for us all. We stopped at one in NY on the trip home from our hunt so I could buy a grinder and other processing things for doing the moose when I got home. Again, very good experience. But, that has been almost 6 years ago and before BP took over.

I have a Cabela’s credit card that I use all the time to get points and occasionally pick up stuff on the gear guide for the bonus points. I predominantly wait for their 10% off sales or bonus points to maximize my return when I do shop there. Worked well enough to buy a Nightforce on points and I’m well on my way to a second one.

I'm not quite sure why all the slamming of Cabela's. If I don't like a store, I just go somewhere else. Issue solved. There's plenty of stores that are happy to take my money, and treat me well in return!

No one is slamming Cabelas. Just stating facts. No one has to shop there and I haven’t bought a single thing there in years. Every option available is better. Facts are facts but stating a point isn’t “slamming”

I used to use their card exclusively as well, and for my business I'd rack up a considerable amount of points to use.
But it seemed like every time I wanted to make a purchase they either wouldn't have what I wanted or I'd find it significantly cheaper somewhere else. Since they didn't have any descent rain gear (their selection is abysmal) I thought I'd pick up an Alps Impact vest for when I take my boy hunting because I end up carrying all his stuff too. They had it on sale, but it was still $30 more than I could get it elsewhere.
It used to be you'd have a hard choice to make from all the quality products they carried, but now you can't find a single one to buy.

Optics is what I typically go for as most manufacturers set a minimum price so in most cases it’s the same across the board no matter the store.

I bought through there web site from both stores in the 90's using there 6 easy pay. They only charged a dollar a monthly payment. I had Cabela's brand camo clothing last longer then others including Columbia brand.
Raising 2 kids back then, it was impossible for me to fork out the cash to purchse a leupold scope, buck fixed blade with gut hook knife with rosewood grips, cabelas hunting clothing was better than what the department stores had on the shelves, i would pay pennies for them to use as rags.

For the most part I have had good luck with Cabela's. The last firearm I bought was from Cabela's, their price was slightly higher then some of the other places I looked at and slightly lower then some of the other competitors. I have never found one store or online retailer that always had what I was looking for in stock and at the lowest prices. I think a lot of it just comes down to being a smart consumer.

I also have no complaint's about the few articles of Cabela's brand clothing/footwear I have purchased over the years. I have their insulated underwear, insulated rubber boots, PFD's, upland jacket, upland pants and have not had any quality issues with any of it. I really like my Cabela's GoreTex Guidwear jacket and bibs. It has over 6 years of use and still keeps the water out and all zippers and seams are good. The bibs dont get used as much as the jacket, but the jacket see a lot of use.

Cabelas used to be the only place I bought outdoor clothing. I bought a Berber fleece jacket from them about 8 years ago for bowhunting. Wonderful piece of clothing. It was warm and very quiet. I outgrew that one, so I ordered a bigger one 2 seasons ago. I sent it right back and gave it a scathing review. What a POS. The quality went way downhill. It was much lighter weight and very noisy.

The store is definitely not what it used to be. I occasionally order things from them but that’s a about it. I have a store relatively close to me and I check it out sometimes, but inventory is always low. Thanks goodness I got into hunting when products were still made well, and available.

I must say I like cabellas brand trail cameras. They take great pics and are very reasonably priced.

90's Cabela's was legit. Glad to have lived through it. Everything has a lifecycle though, businesses included.

That said we've never had better clothes, or more choice, than we do now.

The country was BS-ed into voting for people that were in the pockets of corporate "America" - and the speech by a certain president back then who said, "We're going to change our economy from a manufacturing-based economy to a service-based economy" - that's when the race to move jobs offshore started. "Woke" has NOTHING to do with jobs moving overseas. When asked - most "in the know" people can't even define "woke." You get about 40 different answers, each given to pacify one's own needs / gripes.

You know what would be SMART for Americans if they want jobs to come back here?? Vote for those who MAKE THE MOVES - not just run their mouths & say pretty things for votes - to get jobs back here. Maybe instead of fighting with each other & spewing hate at each other (see below) ...... we stand together and DEMAND that industries build here & employ American workers again. I'd like to see us "average Americans" stand together on some things - for the betterment of OUR lives for a change.

*** When we're busy "hating" each other politically and infighting, we're distracted from the REAL issues we should be addressing. Like creating GOOD PAYING jobs here in the U.S.A. Keeping our air, water, and soil clean and free of harmful pollutants. Keeping Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid for us ........ and our kids & grandkids. I doubt our kids & grandkids will all become ultra-wealthy. When we fight and hate each other, the guys who are drinking single-malt Scotch and puffing on hand-rolled cigars while flying in their private jets are laughing at us ...... because we aren't addressing REAL things that could make us "average" folks' lives better. Those things might make their record bottom lines just a little less spectacular. And of course we have to WORK for it - no handouts. They'll always be rich, (and I don't hate them for that) but us "average" families might have it a bit less stressful to get by.

A couple of us bought the wind sheer camo turtlenecks about 20 years ago from cabelas they were quality as we all still wear them. My buddy called me the other day and said they don’t make them anymore, and did I know where to get them? I can’t find em anywhere.

There not pull overs, but I bought two last month, 4Most Windshear, one in large for everyday wear and one in XL to layer over a couple of wool shirts for hunting. So far I like it. A little tight in the shoulder across the back, but not bad.

The goretex Cabelas stuff I bought 15 years ago I still have and use heavily for hunting. The outer camo jacket gets the briar tears sewn up every couple years. Still keeps me dry. Seems that Sitka and a few of the other higher priced gear is the way to go these days. Better quality but pricier. I’d rather pay once and be done with it.
By the time I need new outer gear I will be 70 and that will be the last time I buy new outerwear.
