5885 Views 29 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  big28hunter
My father and I are considering a spring or fall bear hunt in Maine in 2011. Anyone have any input on a good outfitter from previous experience?

Appreciate the help!

Maine doesn't have a spring season. You'll have to go to Canada for that.
Maine does have a spring season. My buddy guides it on indian land. This will be second or third spring.
I moved away from Maine in Jan, 2009. I didnt know of one prior to that, at least not during the years I lived there. (1997-2001, 2006-2009)

I did see some bear mounts of earlier years that had spring hunts, and I would not want to shoot one of them skinny things!!!

Is it only on Indian land?
Just found out my buddy left for Maine for a bear hunt. So I hope they do have a spring hunt.

Why? It's not spring?
they may have one on Indian land, but the state in general quit spring bear hunts right after the 1981 hunt. I have not heard that they repealed that statewide. If you find a spring hunt anywhere up in Canada or on that Indian land, I can fill you in on the details you'll need to follow to be sure of as comfortable hunt as can be done in the spring up north. There are many good guides in Maine, depending on how for west or north in the state you go. Two I can personally recommend are Katahdin Lodge, and Bear Mountain Lodge, both located on rt11 north out of Patton.

Talk to Randy Flannery at Wilderness Escape Lodge, they're in Danforth, Maine. Hunts are end of Aug-Sept. I'm sure he'll be at Harrisburg show if you go.
come to the sports show next month in Pittsburgh .you can find alot of info there .

You can't go wrong with Foggy Mountain from what I hear.
wayne bosowicz is a no nonsense kind of guy but i know him through friends of the family that live in sebec, maine.

he might know black bears better than just about anyone on the planet. lol

Don't the headnets and bug dope help you keep your sanity? I'm just wondering because I'm thinking of doing a spring hunt sometime.
