Got a new lyman deerstalker 50 cal and was wandering if anyone had a suggestion on what loads would shoot the best.I have both powerbelts and hornady 490 rb's but would prefer to shoot the powerbelts for deer season do to the ease of loading and i wouldnt have to mess with patches. Any help would be greatly appreciated i dont have alot of time to get to the range so i want to utilize my time wisely

I use a Lyman Trade Rifle - I think the barrels are twisted the same but the Trade Rifle's might be a hair longer.

348 gr. Powerbelts with 80 gr of FFF shout nice for me - heavy bullet, but I like to keep my shots under 75 yards.
That may or may not work for you.

Try 80 gr 2f and a 240 gr PA conical or 490 patch roundball

I use a 320 gr. maxi ball pushed by 90grs of FFF. You should find more accuracy with a maxi-ball style bullet vs. a sabot w/ the 1:48" twist in this gun, but if it shoots, it shoots. Good luck and have fun experimenting.
