I started the camo paint job on my canoe with stencils I made of swamp grass and cat tails. I painstakingly drew the outlines of the grass on posterboard and cut them out with an exactoknife. It took about an hour and a half to make the two stencils.
As you can see, I put a base coat of flat green then used the first stencil to get the grass pattern applied. The stencil was taped to the side of the canoe and I was waiting for the paint to dry before moving it over and painting more grass.
I had an audience, Martha and George, my landlord's two friendly turkeys. I walked over to my truck to get new tape and turned my back for 30 seconds. I saw Martha running across the yard with my stencil in her mouth. I chased her to no avail. She set it down and tore it into three pieces!
Can't trust friendly turkeys I reckon! I made a new stencil and will attempt this again tomorrow.
As you can see, George has returned to scene of last night's crime!
