I had to get a new frizzen screw for my Lyman lock and now I need to put it back together. So my question is, what would be the best way to compress the frizzen spring to avoid bending the new screw? Thanks in advance...

cotton rag between the vise grip jaws(not to scratch the frizzen spring)just enough pressure on the spring so the frizzen flip up and down with out any tension on it

The round rubber gripper to open jars works good not to mark the spring.Compress lightly with a vice grip.
