Had my son Cody(9) out for his first setup of the season. We got in stand around 5:00pm with a slight breeze out of the southwest. At 6:15pm a small 5pt came into the oaks about 60yrds in front of us. I tapped him on the shoulder and let him know "its a small 5pt". He said "big enough for me" as he stood and got the bow in his hand and the release attached to the loop. The buck moved off to the west and just then the 6pt i have been seeing all summer came out. He said "call to him". I made 2 soft doe bleats and he turned and began the approach. At 30yrds me sons say "why am i shaking and my knees knocking?". I said "that is what this is all about". The buck never came close enough for a shot as he turned and went to the west also. After alittle while the shakes went away. I live for this time of year. Its not about harvesting anything but making memories that will last forever.
