CHICAGO — Little League International has stripped Jackie Robinson West of the national title that the Chicago team won last summer after an investigation revealed it had falsified boundaries to field ineligible players.
In a stunning Wednesday announcement that came months after the all-black team, whose ages ranged from 11 to 13 years, captured the attention of the country and the hearts of its hometown, the baseball organization said it also found that after the league had changed the boundaries, some team officials went to surrounding leagues to convince them to go along with what they'd done.
"This is a heartbreaking decision," Stephen D. Keener, the Little League International president and CEO, said in a statement.
"As painful as it is, we feel it is a necessary decision to maintain the integrity of the Little League program. No team can be allowed to attempt to strengthen its team by putting players on their roster that live outside their boundaries."
The team has been suspended from Little League tournament privileges until new leadership is found. The team's manager, Darold Butler, is also suspended, and an administrator from the district that includes Jackie Robinson West has been removed from his position, according to the statement.
The march of the team riveted the city, all the way to its loss in the world championship game to South Korea, and when it was over, thousands of people lined Chicago's streets to catch a glimpse of the boys as they were paraded by bus from their South Side baseball field to a downtown park.
There were countless heartwarming stories about the team, including an effort by major-league players to contribute money so the parents in the blue collar community could attend the World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and another about Cubs players huddled around a television watching the team during a rain delay at Wrigley Field. The team was treated to a trip to the major-league World Series and to the White House to meet President Barack Obama and the first lady, Michelle Obama.

In October, the organization launched an investigation when a coach from a nearby suburb alleged that Jackie Robinson West had violated rules by poaching top suburban players. The story, which was first reported by DNAinfo.com, appeared to end in December when the national organization said it had uncovered no violations. But the organization said it would reopen the investigation if new information surfaced. About that same time, the organization learned of questions about boundary maps involving multiple leagues, and the investigation resumed.
"Little League International ... learned that Jackie Robinson West Little League knowingly expanded its boundaries to include territory that belonged to other leagues in the district without the approval from the other leagues or the Little League International Charter Committee" and used the "falsified boundary map for their 2014 tournament," the organization said.
League officials did not immediately return calls for comment. Throughout the investigation, the team has maintained that no cheating occurred.
This is the third time in the 68-year history of the Little League World Series that Little League International had vacated wins after an investigation had revealed wrongdoing. In 1992, a team from the Philippines was disqualified and in 2001 a team from the Bronx was disqualified.

They played the race card and have Jesse backing them up. Not a word about the kids they cheated out of a chance to play in the finals or even get to the LLWS.

I agree with you, there is no way the parents didn't know what was going on.

Bunch of bull the way they are playing this out!! They cheated, they got caught, NO DOUBT they all knew what was going on, and now they want to cry about it and being racially discriminated against now???? Give me a break people. Then she says with ole Jesse standing behind her "50 years ago we couldn't even play". Well guess what, it isn't 50yrs ago and it isn't our fault what happened in the past, and now you can participate, rightfully, and YOUR COACHES AND PARENTS CHOSE TO CHEAT. Get over it and feel sorry for what you did to your kids and what you TOOK AWAY from all of those other teams. They took away a chance of a lifetime from every other team they illegally beat, and that right there isn't right. Any coach or league member that had anything to do with it or any knowledge of it should be banned from little league for life.

The only thing racist about this, is the parents using the race card and the idiot Jesse backing them, they are the racist here !
They cheated, got caught, and paid the price. They all knew they were cheating. What if a all white team would have beat them, and it was learned they cheated the same way............would they not want justice.........your dam right they would.
The parents, coaches, and administrators involved should all be proud of themselves for teaching those kids that cheating to win is okay. The kids who knew they were cheating, and certainly some if not all knew they were, should also feel the shame that the parents should be feeling.
What type of adults will those kids turn out to be if they are taught that cheating to get what you want is ok, and if you get caught, just play the race card and people will forgive you...........they all deserve the shame they are getting !!

If you read the comments on the articles posted on yahoo about them playing race card, they are overwhelmingly against their claims, in fact, of the few dozen I read, I did not see one supporting them. In my opinion, playing the race card just puts more shame on the entire organization for trying to justify what they did.

No surprise coming out of a corrupt city of Chicago.

IMO,12 year old kids are not stupid.
Everybody,coaches,parents,and players were aware.

Anybody here play little league ball and tell me they wouldn't know if ringers were on their team.
I certainly would have.

This thing was about as Fair as the joke PIAA Football championships

Who couldn't have figured that one out. The one kid pulled up to the stadium driving the team bus and 3 others were smoking cigars in the dugout with the coach.

Now, now. The PIAA is all on the up and up. Its simply a coincidence that wealthy, private schools seem to always be in the championships. It's not because they recruit players. I'm actually stunned that Aliquippa has had the limited success they've had in the PIAA playoffs.

That'll teach'em. Next time, get those kids on a good steroid regiment instead of hiring heavy hitters from other towns, that way they'll be ready for the major leagues.
