Still fairly new to this; is there a kill-type light that you can use with a rifle and shotgun? or do you have to buy 2 separate lights? Thanks

Most mounts give you the option of mounting to a shotgun barrel or rifle scope, assuming it has a 1" tube.

You might actually find that 3 lights are nessisary, a gun light, a scanner , and headlamp, scanning with you gun light is a bad habit and you will spook most of them, if you only want one light hold it in your hand to scan anf shoot, but if its mounted you will need a scanner

How well does it work to scan and particularly shoot with a light in your hand?

Use a Night Eyes or Kill Light XLR250 mounted to your shotgun barrel/rifle scope and use some form of headlamp for scanning. I use either the Night Eyes headlamp or the Coyote Light headlamp.

I use 2 Coyote TLR lights. One for scanning and one mounted to my gun.

I think that would be alittle difficult unless you had the light mounted to a monopod/bipod to scan/shoot.

It works fine, although I always use shooting stick iv shot seceral critters just with my scanning light in hand but yes my rifle is on shooting sticks.. nothing fancy just the wooden ones from gander mt. Mine were about 10, I never go out without it for one because you dont halfto hold your gun, there is much less movenent when you got to shoot, and its much harder to miss
