the new snow in Potter county the past 2 days was truly a blessing. Between 4 people still hunting today in 3 hours we moved over 100 deer. I alone came across over 30 fresh beds. Most of the deer were jumping 100 yds in front of us due to really quiet conditions and the little wind we had was blowing at our backs. No shots were fired as most every deer was up moving early before we got within range but they werent spooked either. This was all on private property and we covered over 2 miles encompassing 3 mountains. Very productive day.

Galeton.. yesterday they were holed up on the North facing slopes and every single bed the 4 of us came upon was under heavy hemlocks. We've had snow daily so my assumption is that is why they chose the hemlocks. Every deer Friday ran downhill into the bottom and then back up into the hemlocks. It was quiet yesterday and perfect with 30 degree weather and no wind.

Today, we hit the same area. The deer were holding tighter and it was in the teens temp wise and the wind was vicious. However, I got shooting today (missed wildly on a nice sized doe) and if the winds hadnt caused me to get busted I would have had shooting at two others. Today, the wind cause the deer to hang in the bottoms and when pushed moved up the slope of the mountain and up onto the flats and into the beech cuts (10 year old). Ironic how 24 hours changes a deer's pattern and choice of escape routes.
