Article in the Times Leader discussing a man's attempt to start a Friends of the Forest group for the Lackawanna State Forest.

According to the Paper:
A meeting will be held Sept. 1 at the Thornhurst Municipal Building at 6:30 p.m. to discuss forming the Friends group and allow anyone interested to sign up (for information call Healey at 655-4979).

Where is the Thornhurst Municipal Building? Probably drove past it a million times and never noticed! Is it next to the fire hall?

Think you are correct, after doing some digging in Google I found another search result for this meeting, and it states:

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer is asked to call Joe Healey of Laflin PA at (570) 655-4979. An organizational meeting will be held Wednesday, September 1 at 6:30 PM at the Thornhurst Municipal Building on River Road across from the firehouse. Everything that the Friends Group will be involved in will be discussed. Representatives from PA Parks and Forests Foundation and DCNR will be in attendance.
Meeting is still on 630 pm. If you look at a mapping system like Bing or Google Maps, find Bear Lake Rd, where it intersects with River Road. Believe you hang a right at the intersection if you are coming into River Road off of Bear Lake Rd. Municipal building on your left quarter/half mile down River.
I will be there!
I work in that state forest. Its nice country.
Nice presentation by the State Forest personnel, just wish the room was a little bigger or the air conditioner was functioning properly!

About 20 people showed up to become volunteers, many indicating that they had friends who were also interested. Some of the projects that were discussed were litter P/U along Bear Lake Road, trail clearing, signage on the new SF tracts, wildlife habitat projects, brook trout stream improvements, island and campsite maintenance, and painting the vista lookout tower...others I'm probably forgetting, too.

The group is going to have another meeting soon to elect board members. I will keep this site posted!
