Folks,

I know its been quiet in here. But I am curious who would be interested in participating in a knife in the hat or knife swap again? For those who dont know it would be open to anyone willing to make a knife The only requirement is you try your best. We would agree on a style type etc and then we would go from there. Each person would be required to ship their knife to one of the participants. We would chose this at random. You then would receive a knife from someone else too. Obviously you would need to be 18 to participate.

SO lets hear it who would do it?

Last time Pa woodsman was in too.
Last one was out of an old file, hunting style 3-4 inch blade, handle material anything goes.

We could make a bird and trout style, or perhaps a small necker type? Are we forging or stock removal or either? handle material, antler, wood, maybe out of the old wood pile? file work? Bowie, hmmm so many choices.

Mine would be forged but I think it would depend on what the person does. don't matter to me I'm in. Thanks

Ok fellas so hows this sound:

Style: either a camp knife(think big guy chopper) or a cleaver style still need to decide one

Method: forged or stock removal your choice

Handle Material: Your choice but should be found material or scrounged up. No buying it. Ie old antler you have, wood outta the wood pile etc. The better the story around the material the more interesting

Guard/Bolsters: maker choice

Sheath: Optional up to each maker. I dont want anyone limited cause they done have leather etc

Any skill level welcome. This is about getting something form someone who gave there all, talking about the product and improving is always welcome. Never made a knife I am sure we can guide you some assuming you have some basic tools and tool knowledge..

I also posted about it in the General hunting forum to see if others want to jump in...hoping we get a few more folks.

LEt me know your thoughts guys

Sounds good to me. This should be a fun build. Hopefully more people join in. This would be easy enough for anyone with a hand drill and an angle grinder.

Ok Folks Here is the plan:

Camp Knife Knife Swap

Requirements

Blade Length: Minimum 7 inches, Bear in mind camp knives are usual choppers

Make: Forged or stock removal. Steel your choice

Handle: Any type is fine but it must be scrounged up not bought. So think out of the old wood pile, antler from a previous hunt etc etc. Be creative and have fun with it

Sheath: Optional and up to the maker

Timeline: Knives should be ready to ship the first week in December.

Anyone is welcome to participate. obviously 18 years and up, All that is asked is that you put your best effort into what you make. Doesn't matter if you are new or old to this game. Pictures should be posted to this thread for all to see. Just like last time I will randomly pick who will send knives to whom and post on here. Obviously you agree to cover shipping of the knife to the person who is to get your knife. Still hoping for a few more folks.

Current Participants

Birdog

burninghxcsoul
Blacksmith

Let me know if this works guys

I took a break from wiring up my new 3 car garage/future workshop this afternoon to forge. Roughed out the shape of the knife and forged in the bevels. Had to stop after an hour so I might make some more tweaks to it before I start grinding. After googling a camp knife I think I'm close haha. Material is a 3/4 coil spring.
