Me, my dad, and a couple buddies are planning to book a Rio Grande trip next week with Grand slam hunts for next year. Has anyone ever dealt with this outfit? Has anyone hunted Kansas for turkeys? When is the best time to go? Any other info would be greatlty aprreciated.

I do not have any experience with Grand Slam Hunts but I have heard the owner Tim Herald is a good guy.

KS is blessed with an incredible turkey population and birds can be killed throughout the season. If given a choice, I would go earlier in the season.

Also make sure you are going to be in the "True Rio" zone as there are also easterns and hybrids in many areas. The NWTF website has a map that shows the approximate range for each subspecies.

Tim is an experienced turkey guy so if he is selling a hunt as a Rio hunt you should be OK.

Good luck and you are wise to be planning now for next year.
