My oldest boy (now 19) told me he took off work for opening weekend (regular opener). Haven't done that since he was 7 before he started travel baseball. I made every opener before that and none since. I will make this one! Sooo looking forward to it!

Good to hear. I haven't missed a trout opener since the first time my dad took me. Don't get me wrong, I prefer my fishing (especially trout fishing) to be alone and secluded, but there's just something about the opener. Doesn't matter if I've already been out on a DHALO or even just sucker fishing. More of a social event than anything, and I LOVE seeing the kids get all excited and maybe even helping one or two of them out.

Definitely something to look forward to. Your earlier fishing outings must have made a good impression upon your son for him to schedule the weekend off.

Looks like I'm going to make my first opening day since 1998. Can't quite say I share your excitement though. Due to an upcoming move it might be my only chance to make it to PA for trout fishing this year. I prefer my usual June vacation over the opener. At least I'll be able to stay the whole week of the opener, so hopefully I'll still have some space to fish once most of the one and done crowd goes home Sunday night. I'm still excited to spend the time at camp with my Dad fishing in PA, no matter what month. Haven't decided yet, but I'm probably going to head way off the beaten path for a native stream with my spinners on opening day. It's either that or break out the bait for old times sake and witness the chaos of the opener for the fun of it.
Good luck to you and enjoy the trip with your son.

I used to look forward to the trout opener more than Christmas when I was a little kid. Not so much anymore! It is more of a lets get that out of the way kind of thing. I don't think I will ever miss one though.

Nice!!! Hope you guys have a great time!!

Me, it looks like I will possibly miss my first opening in about 30 years here. This late thaw is pushing all my snow goose hunting WAY back and it's possible that I'll be in NY for that day chasing the white birds around. Typically it's all over by then but theres a shot this year that it overlapes. It's the 18th of April so maybe it's late enough. Not like I really really care. It's just tradition. The opener is almost always my worst trout outing of the season anyhow. My kids dont really care much....what's the point.
